#20: First & Last (Live recording download)

Here’s a treat: live in La Jolla, California, The V. Sjöberg New Jazz Ensemble performing a tune that is tentatively titled “First & Last”.
#19: Thank you.

On May 13, 2009, the V. Sjöberg New Jazz Ensemble was:
Daniel Sanchez, Gabrielle Athayde, Frank S. Li, Burleigh Drummond, Ben Lee, Andrew Oh, Trevor White, David Hurley, Miles Anderson, Kelly Styger, Daniel Merriott, Daniel Teplitz, Manny Vega and Kicki Spalding.
Thank you so much for your individual and collective effort. This was a beautiful thing and we shall see more of that beauty in the future.
I just listened to a bootleg recording of the show and while the sound is not 100%, some excerpts should be available soon.
Love, Viktor
#17: The Show
So this will be the largest V. Sjöberg New Jazz Ensemble production so far. Since I arrived in the United States in February I’ve been working to get this project ready for it’s initial (and maybe final) performance. This performance will be held at The Loft @ University of California San Diego. (Read about it all here.) Considering that I didn’t know anyone in the San Diego area, I’ve been really lucky to meet people that have helped me to realise my vision and completing it by sharing their own ideas with me. More about these people in the coming weeks. I am currently listening back to some recordings that I made at our latest rehearsal and somewhere in between my incoherent ramblings there are some otherworldly moments of absolute beauty. Can’t wait to share it with you. Here’s a big flyer:

#16: Recording again

Parts of the V. Sjöberg New Jazz Horn Section. Here we go, go, go.
#14: Jazz of the day pt. 3

Weather Report – “American Tango” (listen/download)
I am not too familiar with the Weather Report but this is such a beautiful song. Today I listened to it at a gas station.
#13: Unveiling and veiling

Hey lovers. From this point on we will be moving beyond the clues and onto the actual ‘production stage’. The updates haven’t been very frequent lately, but the project has been going well so far. So look forward to more action within the next few weeks.
Do you have something to say regarding the song “Lover man”? Have you played it before? Do you know someone that plays it in a beautiful manner? Have you ever listened to the song?
If so, write me at viktorsjoberg AT gmail.com and tell me all about it.
#12: Musicians/players

Pictured above is Harry, he plays “all the time, every day” at 2nd & J street in downtown San Diego. He’s a great guy and he played me Charlie Parker’s “Anthropology”. He even did a version of the riff where he added the classic Woody Woodpecker call, merging it with the Parker composition. Bird and woodpecker.
Pictured below is a cello with “LOVE LIFE” written all over its case. This was captured earlier today at the UCSD campus and it is also a part of the movement. Let’s go!
